I want your take on this.
I’ve been doing a lot of reflection and writing over the past week in preparation for this new year and one question I’ve been contemplating has been: What are the most important skills to develop considering the times we live in?
There were 3 critical skills that came to mind above all else, given the current political and social climate and given the amount of desire there is within our tribe to have a large positive influence on raising the consciousness of the planet.
It’s just a 4½ minute video to help make sure your sights are on skills that can make the most difference to your ability to inspire and influence as well as to raise your day-to-day happiness levels. You may or may not be here to ‘Save the Planet,’ but I know you are here to experience more of your potential this year—while you make an impact that feels meaningful.
Watch the video here and let me know if you agree, or if there are other skills you think are more important than these.
Much love,
Beautiful! And I would add the art of receiving as well. This is about shifting from a “do to get” life to an “express and receive” way of being. This is big shift and yet it is a game-changer when we begin to experience this as a way to go through life day to day.
Hey Rachael Jayne! And Happy New Year – best wishes from Greece! First of all, I want to thank you for the quality of work you do and for the high standards of leadership that you challenge your community to work towards. I’ve read your book from cover to cover and am now working my way through your Inspirational Leadership workbook. I found the 3 skills you highlighted insightful – the skills of 1) taking full responsibility 2) uncovering the absolute truths and 3) being still. I come from a classroom teacher background, and so perhaps my experience of working with teenagers is what’s influenced my definition of the 3 key skills people need for 21st century work and life, which I define as follows: the skills of 1 ) focusing more 2) stressing less and 3) motivating yourself. Partly this has to do with the fact that I’ve noticed an increasing issue in youths’ ability to focus for long periods of time and to motivate themselves, which seems to relate to your point about responsibility and to being still. I’ve noticed that in recent years, the responsibility for a child to feel motivated about a particular subject or about going to school has shifted away from the student and more towards the teacher. This is a problem, as business owners and employers (understandably) continue to require that employee show up to work as self-motivated, focused, responsible individuals. So there seems to be a gap between the skills needed to thrive in adult work and life, and a growing culture of shifting responsibility and blame-game schooling in mainstream education. That being said, I have a feeling that there may be a deeper relationship between the top 3 skills I’ve identified and the ones you’ve outline here…though I’m stuck on how to articulate the exact connection or relationship between our two models. What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear your point of view.
My 2 – didn’t make it to three – were Kindness and Responsibility!
Love the Truth and Stillness – see a relationship to Kindness there.
Happy New Year and Thank you for your inspiration!
