What ‘triggers’ you? More to the point, who triggers you?
Most frequently it’s people we love the most (like your partner) or people we want to keep a big distance from (for example mean, unconscious narcissists).
When something triggers you, you get a surge of energy through your body that could easily turn you into someone you don’t want to be. At that moment you have a choice. Do I act on this surge that feels like it wants to express itself, or do I pause and not be reactive?
If you want to honor the feeling that is happening through your body, but don’t want to yell back, judge, get irritated, or say something you’ll regret later, here is a short powerful practice to consider:
